Xylan fluoropolymer coatings are the result of design engineering done several decades ago.

The first fluoropolymer coatings were relatively soft films, the kind found on frying pans and a few non-stick applications in industry. A team of polymer chemists and engineers devised the matrix conecpt for coatings, "building" a coating to protect the soft fluoropolymer from wear while taking advantage of its low-friction property.

Over the years, these self-lubricating materials have been used to solve a growing range of engineering and design problems. Today, Xylan is one of the largest and most complete lines of fluoropolymer coatings in the world.

Sun Coating Company has applied Xylan to an ever-widening spectrum of applications, and we have learned a few things in the process. For instance:

Series Carrier Coating Characteristics Typical Applications
1000 Solvent Premium dry-film lubricant, with a widely varying properties; heat stable, Excellent corrosion barrier, flexible cure schedule and hardness. Applied by spraying. Sliding mechanisms, bearings, fasteners, powder screws, valves, machine parts, and pistons.
1100 Water Similar to 1000 Series, but waterborne. Same as Xylan 1000.
1200 Water Good friction and release, good UV stability and out-door weathering. Applied by spray and dip/spin. Saw blades, small fasteners, and stampings.
1300 Water Excellent abrasion and chemical resistance must be cured above 700 deg. Applied by spraying. Pump components, slurry impellers, and valve bodies.
1400 Solvent Excellent chemical resistance, Applied by spraying. Large fasteners, Automotive components.
1600 Solvent Tough, provides primary and secondary lubrication. Applied by spraying. Automotive engine parts, compressor applications, journal bearings.
1700 Water High release, good toughness, heaver film build to achieve greater abrasion. Applied by spraying. Copy rollers. Immersion heaters, heat-sealing bars, molds.
1800 Solvent Maximum nonstick (release) properties. Heat-sealing bars, molds.
5200 Solvent Formulated for dip/spin application. Outstanding corrosion protection from salt spray. Fasteners and other small parts that need salt fog protection.
8200 Water Two-coat system that provides excellent release with superior hot hardness and durability. Applied by spraying. Food-contact applications.
